Join us for a day of on-farm learning, including a farm tour, work project, and fieldwork demonstration, as Aimee and John Good share their story of transitioning from working for someone else to leasing land, to owning a farm. They will dive into topics such as farm transitions, infrastructure decisions, and sustaining community around farming. We’ll also hear from Pasa’s research team about our financial benchmark study and how participation in this study has impacted The Good Farm, as well as learn how John and Aimee have determined the right scale for profitability.
At registration, you’ll have the option to choose between spending your afternoon engaging in an on-farm work project and field demonstration or participating in a two-hour training with Labor Movement. By popular demand, we have worked with John and Aimee to create a work project and demonstration for pre-apprentices and apprentices to work alongside one another and give back to the farm that hosts us! Prepare for an energizing afternoon helping to clean up summer fields and prepare for fall cover cropping. The exact details of the work project and field demonstration may change based on weather and soil conditions. Alternatively, the Labor Movement training will guide you in understanding body mechanics and movement patterns in order to increase workforce productivity and help decrease workplace injuries. Time will be spent in an interactive atmosphere understanding the importance of core stability and moving through four basic movement patterns: hinge, squat, push, and pull. Each participant will leave with knowledge of ways to improve their overall movement patterning and work-related well-being.
There will be plenty of time for networking and conversation throughout the day with peers and graduates from Pasa’s Diversified Vegetable Pre-Apprenticeship and Apprenticeship. Come with questions, enthusiasm, and work gloves!
Since 2017, John and Aimee Good have been farming on 18 acres of land in beautiful northwestern Lehigh County, PA, near the base of the Blue Mountain. Previously, they owned and operated Quiet Creek Farm, a certified organic and 200+ member CSA, at The Rodale Institute from 2006 to 2016. With 20 years of experience in the field, they enjoy sharing their knowledge with others, speaking at farming conferences, hosting on-farm workshops, and training young farmers every season. John currently serves as Pasa’s Board Chair and both John and Aimee are mentor farmers in Pasa’s Diversified Vegetable Apprenticeship.
