About the position:
The senior livestock manager leads our livestock crew in the daily operations and care of grass fed beef cattle and pastured poultry (laying hens, turkeys, broiler chickens) as well as poultry processing. We are looking for a professional that contributes to long term planning and brings thoughtful ideas and practices to our operation. The position requires an expertise in organic, pasture-based livestock systems, as well as an ability to train new farmers and quickly troubleshoot any problems that arise.

Requirements
● 5 years of organic, pasture based animal husbandry
● Brooding poultry
● Processing poultry
● Cow/calf experience
● Operate tractors and equipment
● Pasture management
● Leadership skills

Responsibilities
Working with our team to execute daily tasks including:
● Manage the livestock team
● Raising poultry in succession
● Raising laying hens
● Monitor livestock health
● Beef cattle handling
● Rotational grazing
● Poultry processing
● Developing and implementing strategies that lead to productivity
● Record keeping

Manager will develop, lead and execute aspects of Community Farm Facility Management in addition to carrying out all tasks necessary for successful farming, and as part of a team. Acts as a steward for the Farm and organization at large with high productivity, teambuilding and collaboration to increase quality of Farm Community processes, equipment, infrastructure, repairs, maintenance, structures and knowledge.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILIITES:
– High performing, operational excellence on a daily basis. Assists in increasing the quality of the Farm program and its operations. Moves all project aspects such as building/constructing, repair or maintenance from start to finish.
– Leads tours and work sessions which ensure positive experiences for both individual and group volunteers or partners. Assists in a human-centered, relational model of service delivery which meets a high standard of relationship and program building for guests, volunteers, partners and the community.
– Assists in Volunteer Management Systems such as volunteer onboarding and best practice training.
– Helps to plan and conduct workshops and educational experiences which may focus on sustainable agriculture, local food systems, environmental stewardship or Facility Team themes. Assists with special events.
– Excellent customer service and communication skills with a passion for relationship building, listening to people’s needs and providing quality services, feedback and follow-up.
– Ability to establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with co-workers, guests, and visitors; practices cultural sensitivity and ability to relate well and effectively in a diverse workplace and with a diverse guest population. Ability to make others feel welcome and comfortable during uncertainty or difficulty.
– Conducts intentional and thoughtful communication both in person and through writing.
– Works well in a team.
– Regularly builds, develops and leads a team of volunteers dedicated to facility projects.
– Ownership of all farm duties including planting, tending, harvesting and harvest transport, landscaping, projects and program administration.
– Learns about regenerative farming and proactively contributes. Will know GAPs (good agricultural practices) and follow and relay these practices to others. Understands that, depending on the season and priority, the activity of Farming is a component of the Facility Manager’s work.
– Schedules and implements maintenance and repair of tools, machines, structures, buildings across the farm including regular cleaning and organization. Projects may include cleaning gutters, painting, power washing or repairing fencing and gates. Researches and learns simple machine maintenance and repair. For more complex maintenance and repairs, seeks appropriate solutions.
– Proactively monitors and addresses safety and security concerns. Conducts regular inspections of items such as fire extinguishers.
– Responsible for building maintenance to include regular trash and building cleanliness including bathrooms. Monitors and maintains flooring, lighting, and other building systems.
– Oversees grounds maintenance including mowing, weed whacking and ice/snow removal. Additionally includes growing area infrastructure such as sheds, hydrants, irrigation, greenhouse and other structures.
– Purchasing and order pickups from vendors. / Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by Supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
– Ability to work Tuesday through Saturday weekly. Some Saturdays flexible.
– Driver’s license and own transportation.
– Candidates highly interested in both the trades and horticulture are encouraged to apply. Agricultural knowledge desirable but not required. At a minimum, willing to learn quickly and handle difficult physical/mental aspects of farm operation. These may include, but are not limited to, working outside in all types of weather, temperature and conditions.
– Proficiency and/or ability to be trained to operate in a Microsoft 365 environment.
– Candidate desires a place where they can take pride, ownership and fulfillment in the sustained, strategic building of a successful regional program.
– Ability to be on time to work daily, work independently and be highly productive with minimal supervision. Ability to acclimate well to changing tasks and priorities.
– Bachelor’s degree preferred. Ability to safely lift/carry weighted material of 50 pounds.
– Curiosity and enjoyment of learning.
Pay is $18.38/hr with full benefits. Only candidates who can do several in-person interviews will be considered.

A grass-based organic dairy farm in western NY is seeking a motivated and capable person to begin serving as a herdsman and possibly develop an ownership stake in the herd. The farm has 300 acres of pasture and currently milks about 100 cows. It is a well-capitalized farm with an excellent organic milk market. There is an opportunity for a candidate who already owns cows to add them to the existing herd and move to a profit sharing arrangement.

Salary range of $40,000 – $50,000, negotiable based on experience and additional benefits that may be available.

About Two Creek Farm
Two Creek Farm is a regenerative USDA-certified organic farm in Lakewood, PA. Our farming approach prioritizes animal welfare and ecology. We are a diversified farm including poultry, livestock and a commercial market garden. We raise layers, hogs, sheep and cattle year-round, and we raise broilers and turkeys on pasture from May through September. More details available at www.twocreek.net.

Description of Responsibilities
– Crop production: seeding, thinning, watering, transplanting, bed prep, weeding, mulching, irrigation set-up, harvest and packing
– Livestock care: feeding, watering, temporary fence set-up, support animal rotations
– Egg processing: collection, washing and packing
– Market support: support on-farm and farmers-market sales
– Other: support with preparing customer orders / inventory recordkeeping

Required skills
– manual labor experience required
– work and/or educational experience in agriculture preferred
– one season of vegetable farm experience is preferred
– strong attention to detail / commitment to high quality work output
– ability to follow instructions and work effectively both independently and as part of a team
– physical stamina / repeatedly lift 50 lbs for 25 ft in various weather conditions
– ability to maintain records as well as good organizational and time management skills
– able to work long hours, sometimes during holidays
– show up to work on time and communicate clearly about sick days/day off requests
– willingness to change schedules if another team-member is out sick or in the event of an emergency
– driving between farm locations / valid driver’s license required
– eligibility to work in the US

Work environment
Most of the work is performed outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Availability to work weekends is required as per seasonal farm needs.

Compensation
$16 – $20 per hour according to experience
Free surplus produce including organic eggs and vegetables / 30% discount on purchases
